Still Working At 90

Dr Harry Morrow Brown is one of the oldest doctors still practising in the UK, and has no plans to retire. Aged 91, he despairs of how he would spend his time. "If you didn't know what to do with your day, it would be dreadful, awful," he warns. Dr Morrow Brown is still active, running allergy clinics from his home in Derby, as well as still publishing in academic journals, and inventing machines to measure air quality.

Towards Common Ground

By Amy Swan, Policy Officer From Help The Age Help the Aged launched its 'Towards Common Ground' campaign, challenging central and local governments to create 'lifetime neighbourhoods', which cater for the needs of people of all ages,including older people. Local communities are in steady decline with new research showing one in four older people think their community has changed for the worse in the last 10 years.

What Makes Us Happy?

An analysis of wellbeing between the areas where we live, revealed the happiest people in Australia tend to reside in rural and regional towns. People in rural and regional communities are more dependent on each other and therefore become a more socially cohesive group. This has a positive impact on their wellbeing. Moreover, the further towns are away from capital cities, the higher their sense of belonging, safety and security becomes.

Working Makes For A Happier Retirement

People over 65 but still working feel better than those who have retired, new research shows. Initial results from the Health, Work and Retirement Longitudinal Study, carried out by researchers at Massey University’s School of Psychology, have been released.
